know me better
You know how so many social media job descriptions say, “Must live and breathe social media”? Yeah, that’s not me. Social is a huge part of my life, but “living and breathing” implies not having other interests. I believe that being well rounded makes us more interesting, more skilled, more empathetic, more creative, and more culturally aware. And all of that translates to being better at a discipline that thrives on community and communication. I’m better at what I do because of my outside interests, not in spite of them. And taking the time to nurture those passions is a step towards a healthier life and a stronger work ethic.
Below are some of my prime interests. What are yours?
NYC > My passion for NYC and its history and culture led me to become a licensed NYC sightseeing guide, a board member with Red Hook Conservancy, a Team Leader with New York Cares, and a volunteer with Big Apple Greeter, sharing my love of the city with its visitors.
PORTUGAL > I’m a proud first-generation Portuguese-American and hold dual citizenship with both countries. A perfect evening includes listening to fado music while eating a pastel de nata. As more people are now discovering everything Portugal has to offer, hit me up for recommendations.
TRAVEL > Whether traveling solo, with family, or with friends, I’ve enjoyed seeing the sights and meeting the people of Egypt, Thailand, Morocco, Spain, the UK, the Caribbean, dozens of US states, and more. I have a few continents left to explore. Who’s up for a trip to Antarctica?
THEATRE > Broadway. Off-Broadway. Off-off-Broadway. Regional. National tours. Community theatre. I love it all. I base some travel around regional theatre experiences, and I’ve been volunteer ushering throughout NYC since 2011. I’m always good for a recommendation.
FILM > I spent seven years as the film editor of a blog; have written and directed short films; volunteered with festivals, including several years with Hamptons International Film Festival’s screening committee; and even won a contest sponsored by the Academy for a seat on the Oscars Red Carpet. Oh, and ask me about my “170 list.”
DISNEY > Hi, my name is Dan, and I’m a Disney Adult. I enjoy immersing myself in the company’s history and innovations; attending D23 events; touring Walt Disney Studios; and spent a birthday trip flying three hours to Kansas City, then driving two hours to visit Walt’s hometown.
